Kingsway International Christian Centre is the largest growing church in Western Europe. Our phenomenal growth and success is built on strong leadership, our investment in the socio-economic and spiritual needs of multi-cultural communities and our overall desire and commitment to live our lives based on the teachings of Jesus Christ.
In 15 years our congregation has grown from 300 members to up to 12,000 in attendance every Sunday.
1992: The beginning of our Journey
Our journey began in September 1992, when Reverend Matthew Ashimolowo and 300 members rented a hall at Holloway Boys School, North London. These humble beginnings reflect the persistence faith, prayer and patience of a church that is destined for great things.
1993: 12 months on…
In 1993 Darnley Road, East London became our new home. Here, we purchased a three-storey property that was capable of seating 1,000 people.
Under the direction and leadership of Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo, KICC maintained an open, honest and welcoming approach to all visitors. This attracted many more people to come and share in the KICC experience.
Our approach also had a positive effect on children and young teens; whose increase in attendance figures led to us purchasing an additional building to house our Children’s Church.
1997
By 1997 we were running four Sunday services and we began to hold additional services at the Hackney Empire Theatre, Hackney Central Hall and York Hall also in Hackney.
By the end of this year our dedicated membership began to reach the 4,000 mark. This is a significant period in KICC history.
Historically Christian congregations have struggled to raise funds to purchase property or build churches. However, we acquired eight acres of land at 57 Waterden Road, East London for £2.7million – DEBT FREE!

Although up against competition from major corporate companies such as Sainsbury’s and well known property developers, we truly believe that our faith in God and an application of His teachings, enabled us to purchase this property.
In twelve weeks we renovated and refurbished two warehouses on the site, which now house a state-of-the-art 4,000 seater building, employee offices, car parking facilities and a video recording production suite.
We have continued to grow in size, now owning 9.5 acres at our Waterden Road headquarters, and increasing in our network of national and international chapels and branches, whilst also expanding our work.
We have launched KICC Birmingham and KICC French Connection, which holds services in French. We also run a 24 hour ‘Pastor on Call’ service, counselling those in need of advice and support.
Our Winning Ways programmes are televised worldwide and reach audiences all over Africa, the Emirates, the Caribbean, Europe, USA and Asia. Through this ministry thousands of individuals, families and young people have had life changing experiences; and they continue to visit our services and spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
We owe our dynamic success to God’s unlimited power.
We are now entering a new chapter in our history, as we make preparations to move to our new permanent home.
Our journey is still on-going and will never stop, please come back and learn more!
