VERY SAD NEWS! ALAN THOMPSON HAS DIED!

This has come as a huge shock to us all. From the midst of his life, while out bowling at his club, Alan collapsed and died instantly, most likely from an undetected aneurism.

Alan's son has written a very moving tribute to his father und this was very kindly passed on to us by Alan's wife Linda.

Tribute .

Here are some other spontaneous tributes to this sad and unexpected loss:

From David Guyan - Mr Carpet Ltd & Garratt Business Park BID Ltd:

I am completely shocked at the news and I must say that not only was Alan an excellent help with what we have achieved on the Business Park but he was a thoroughly nice person and a pleasure to work with. When my own business required more of my time during estate projects, Alan was the first person to offer to help or cover for me if I was too busy, to ease the pressure, and there is no doubt in my mind we would not have achieved such an excellent result with the BID ballot (the second highest in the UK at the time) without Alan's persistence and endeavours.

From Keith Stringer - M & S Supplies & committee member:

What sad news, Alan will be missed by all and be hard to replace as he was one of us.

From Nigel Holman - Wimbledon Art Studios & committee member:

I'm really really sad to hear about Alan. Clearly someone who we all owe a great deal to. He will be massively missed.

From Nicholas Moll - Ludo Press:

This really is very sad news. As you say, David, there's no doubt that Alan's role has been pivotal to all the progress that has been made on the estate over recent years. He was an expert negotiator, mediator and facilitator, as well as being a thoroughly nice bloke. We all owe him a great deal.

From Bob Hurcombe - Cappagh:

David - thank you for letting us know, what a shock. Alan was a lovely man and will be sadly missed.

From Sue Holding - Boldfort:

I am so sorry to hear the sad news about Alan Thompson.

From Barbara Lascelles - Lascelles Antiques:

I am deeply shocked. At the moment I just cannot imagine how the estate will continue without Alan's help, his attention to detail, his friendly way of dealing with everybody and his broad knowledge of all matters relating to the estate. Personally I will miss him very much, as I so very much enjoyed working with him. It was satisfying to see that his input produced such substantial results, for which all of us are most grateful.

From Mike Powell - CPS Supply:

I was shocked and saddened to get your email about Alan. He was a very likeable and pleasant man who worked tirelessly for the interests of our estate. He will certainly be sadly missed. I will inform the other members of Lyndon Yard.

From Peter Schwartz - Bramfield Garage & committee member:

So sorry to hear this news, without Alan I do not think we would have achieved so much, a sad loss indeed.

From Gareth Burden - National Grid:

I was truly shocked to read this. I only met Alan once but he struck me as a gentleman, a professional and a very personable chap. I'm sure anyone as easy to get along with as Alan leaves behind many shocked friends in these circumstances. My deepest condolences to all friends and family.

From Councillor Angela Graham - Wandsworth Council

Indeed this is very sad news, separate to what he did to help us all, we will certainly miss a friend! Please pass on my sincerest sympathies to his family.

From Judith Roscoe - Wandsworth Council

I was very very shocked to hear about Alan. I thought he did a magnificent job with Garratt Business Park, he was very committed and worked very well with all the businesses. I felt I was very fortunate to work with him.

From Neil Kennett - Wandsworth Council

It is such a shame as he was a really nice person and a gentleman, which has been reflected in the tributes stated.

From Kevin Legg - Wandsworth Council

I am really sorry to hear about Alan - it is such sad news.

From Jenny Metcalfe - Wandsworth Council

It's very sad news to hear about Alan, we had built up a good working relationship over the last year. Please pass on my condolences to his family.

From David Kennett - Wandsworth Council

Thank you for letting me know. I am shocked. It is very sad news. He was a gentleman and such a lovely man. I would certainly like to make a donation to the charity.

From John Ruske - Wandsworth Council

I was shocked and saddened to learn of Alan's completely unexpected passing. Alan will be sorely missed by many friends and associates and from our perspective by colleagues with GBP and the Council.

He was instrumental in bringing people together and creating partnership working within GBP as well as being an effective link with several Council departments and many other agencies. The creation of the BID was proof of his work with all these people.

All the above was against a background where GBP business people necessarily have had to focus on their own businesses in the lead up to and during the recession.

Apart from that Alan was a very decent and gentle man much respected by all his associates. Alan will be very difficult to replace.
